About

Farmers’ Mutual Fire Insurance Company offers one-on-one, friendly customer service. Farmers’ Mutual Fire Insurance Company of Huron County was started in 1894 by a group of local farmers for the purpose of providing low-cost coverage against loss by fire or lightning to their farms including all outbuildings, their equipment and their livestock.

At one time, there were several of these Farm Mutual Fire Insurance Companies in the State of Michigan, but now there are only two left. Although governed by the State of Michigan, this company is its own entity, which means that everything is handled through our Bad Axe Office.

Even though our company started just insuring farms, we now insure all types of housing, including single-family homes, renters and rental properties. In 2014, we expanded our coverage area to include Sanilac and Tuscola counties to be able to insure friends and families of our Huron County customers. In 2015, our business moved to the Northgate Shopping Center. Our customers are now provided with handicapped accessibility and convenient parking, plus we are easy to find.

Our company is like family and many of our past board members, agents and office personnel have served the company for many years.

Because we are a small town company, we pride ourselves in serving our customers with one-on-one friendly customer service and in handling our claims, should they arise, in a timely manner.
